***At this time we will not sell breeding puppies to anyone who is NOT
ALREADY established in breeding and showing the AKK. Due to the complexity
of the genetic issues and
expense of producing this new breed, I don't believe it is a good
time to start someone new into breeding Klee Kai. There are just too many folks
looking to make a quick buck and they are breeding
these dogs without careful thought and
planning.
****AliAK
is
NOT A BANK! I DO NOT WANT YOUR MONEY LAYING AROUND
HERE, SO PLEASE NO
DEPOSITS UNTIL YOU HAVE PICKED YOUR PUPPY AND HE
or SHE HAS BEEN VET CLEARED!****
ALSO... WE DO NOT MAINTAIN A WAITING LIST. YOU
ARE WELCOME TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION AT ANY TIME
AND WE WILL FILE IT. If you have submiited your
application and received a positive e-mail back
then WATCH THE WEBSITE AND
WHEN A LITTER ANNOUNCEMENT IS MADE, Look
FOR UPDATES ON PUPS that WILL BE MADE AVAILABLE.
AT THAT TIME, YOU ARE WELCOME TO E-MAIL AND INQUIRE
ABOUT THE PUP THAT INTERESTS YOU. IT IS FIRST COME,
FIRST SERVED, for all approved homes.
Now
that there are more "new" AKK breeders than ever,
it is important that you do your research and find a breeder whose
goal is to improve upon the breed, rather
than just reproduce the breed or reproduce soley for a certain color of
eyes or coat, etc...
Let's
face it: AKK are cute and new and rare and such
attention grabbers! The problem is.... there are breeders out there recognizing
the demand outweighs the availability and they will pump
out puppies soley to meet demand. Ask your prospective
breeder about their breeding dogs. Are they all
in excellent condition and have they all passed
rigorous Adult Examinations?
DO THEY
SHOW THEIR DOGS IN UKC SHOWS?
Showing
one's dogs validates that the breeder is raising
dogs within breed standards and is taking an active
interest in producing quality dogs worthy of show
ring scrutiny.
WHAT IS
THE BREEDER'S HEALTH GUARANTEE? Some serious genetic
defects can take up to 3 years to become evident.
We recently extended our puppy health guarantee
to 3 years for any life threatening genetic illness.
Does
the breeder spay their own females and neuter their own males who carry genetic faults or
defects? Do they repeat breedings that have produced
puppies with
defects? Find out how many dogs they have had to take out of their
breeding program. A good breeder will have had to
remove some "prospective" breeding dogs.
Not every puppy is perfect.
You
will soon learn distinctions between breeders. In addition
to selecting breeding pairs with the utmost concern for the future of
the breed, your breeder should be willing to provide you a puppy with:
- All puppy shots appropriate to age (1st
set given, 2nd and 3rd, depending on puppy's age when you buy)
- All wormings should have been done.
- Your puppy will have been microchipped for
ID. We include this in our puppy price, it is NOT an additional charge!
- Your puppy should be vet- checked, and all
potential health issues noted in it's file
- A "Guarantee of Good Health" should be
given to you. Again, make sure it is worth the paper it is written on. 72 hours
is a joke!
- Forever breeder support (through
all issues and questions), even if not an area of expertise from your
breeder. The breeder should have a willingness to get you answers to
your questions.
- Parents of every puppy must be tested for
FACTOR VII
Deficiency* and found carriers bred only to safe (non-carrier) mates.
PLEASE
ASK ABOUT YOUR PUPPY'S and your puppy's PARENTS FACTOR VII Deficiency
STATUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Make sure you ASK BEFORE YOU BUY!

* NOTE: Recently many breeders have been stating that they do not TRUST the
U of PA DNA test results of their
dogs for FVII. While I do believe this to be a quick and convenient excuse,
some other breeders have found other tests
available to confirm the DNA results. If a breeder is to do the right thing for
the breed, then the breeder would work willingly and diligently to
erradicate genetic disease at whatever time and cost. There is another souce
now for DNA testing for FVII.
Now, a bit on testing for hips and knees.
No vet can guarantee a puppy has good
knees or hips or eyes at the age you purchase a puppy. There are
agencies that will certify an adult's hips as of a
certain "adult" age. We have not invested in this certification to
date (this does not mean our dogs are not checked), as we see no impact of this-
other than a false sense of security and another
way to lull potential puppy buyers into a comfortable
place. Your pup could still develop hip dysplasia,
OR LUXATING PATELLA (A KNOWN AKK HEALTH CONCERN) regardless
of the parents having been certified excellent.
(what about the grandparents?) We know this for
a fact, as we bought a breeding dog who (at 9 mos
of age) came down with two bad knees and had
to have corrective surgery. There wasn't a single
documented case of Luxating Patella in her background!
hmmmm....???
We are in constant contact with our veterinarian
team, and all of our dogs and puppies are constantly
being examined. Our breed is young- many genetic defects skip several
generations or can take many years to show up clinically. That being
said, I just don't see where the additional "certification" on our adult
dogs are worth a thing when it comes to guaranteeing you a
healthy puppy. No one can ceritfy that with an 8 week old pup, but a dencent Health Guarantee
protects you should the worse happen.
In addition
to these BASIC provisions, AliAK Kennels gives you :
- A
CD of your puppy's pictures since birth, as well as
his/her parent's pictures as adults and birth and pedigree
- copies
of FVII results of parents (and your puppy, if tested)
- Your
AliAK Puppy comes with a Premier Breakaway Collar, (the only
collar we use here at AliAK and firmly recommend)
- Your
AliAK Puppy is paper trained to use "wee wee pads"
- Your
AliAK Puppy will have had a temperament test ( to help you understand your pup's
behavioral
strengths and weaknesses)
- Your
AliAK puppy will be appropriately conditioned and socialized to it's
age. It has been stimulated and taught not to fear everyday sounds and
occurrences, through our specialized Puppy Conditioning Program. ( Of
course, this is no guarantee that your puppy will not have any
fears or issues, but it is a good basis from which YOU can begin to
work with your puppy's continued growth and training).
- There
are more things we plan to do in the future to embellish your
experience as one of our puppy buyers and enhance the puppies that we
send home with you. We work daily to add to this list of provisions so
that your experience with us is truly a "distinctive difference".
